Damascus_Gate_Jerusalem_01They proclaimed Jesus as king. The crowds having gathered, they took up and waved the palm branches – signs of joyous victory. He came through the gate of the ancient city of David, the city of Jerusalem, acknowledging that He was heir to the throne.

But Jesus had no ambitions of glory; at least, not of immediate glory. All assumed he would take the throne and drive out the Roman overlords. But it was not to be. He would ascend, yes. But not to a throne. He would wear a crown, but not of gold or silver. The King came to die, to surrender His life as a ransom for His people.
